Emmer Proposes Expanding a Tax Credit He Voted Against
In his “budget” announcement yesterday, Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer came out with several policy proposals. Mixed in with Tim Pawlenty-style plans to cut taxes for big corporations, Emmer proposed expanding angel investment tax credits. Emmer just has one problem, he voted against creating that same tax credit this year.
Angel investment tax credits provide an incentive for individuals to invest in innovative small businesses that create jobs. Minnesota created this credit earlier this year as part of a larger, bi-partisan jobs bill. The Minnesota AFL-CIO, along with other labor unions and business groups supported this legislation. The bill, which Governor Pawlenty signed, passed the House 112 to 20. Emmer was one of the 20 to oppose the jobs bill.
How can we trust Tom Emmer to create jobs when he has voted against policies he now claims to support? How can we trust someone who, as a legislator, voted against every capital construction bill that came before him?
