Minnesota AFL-CIO Endorses Governor Dayton’s Budget Plan
The Executive Board of the Minnesota AFL-CIO, the state’s largest labor federation, voted unanimously yesterday to endorse Governor Mark Dayton’s state budget plan. On behalf of the 300,000 member labor federation, Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson issued the following statement:
“Minnesota's state budget is more than just adding and subtracting numbers to balance at zero - it is a reflection of our shared values and priorities.
Governor Dayton's budget begins to restore balance by reinvesting in middle class priorities like education, infrastructure, and job creation, while taking us off of a seemingly unending roller coaster of painful cuts & deficits.
The Governor’s bold tax reform plan fixes a broken system that favors big corporations and the rich, and tips the scales back in favor of middle class families and small businesses.
“While unions understand that a truly balanced approach to a budget requires compromise, Governor Dayton's plan is the safe, responsible, right thing to do, and is the right path to continue growing our state's economy.
“That’s why the Minnesota AFL-CIO endorses Governor Dayton's budget proposal and is urging state legislators to join the Governor in passing a fair and balanced budget for a better Minnesota.”
