Minnesota AFL-CIO Statement on the 2012 Elections
Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson issued the following statement in response to the 2012 election results:
"Yesterday, Minnesotans once again voted in record numbers and made their voices heard loud & clear.
Minnesotans firmly rejected the politics of division, restriction, & corporate greed and embraced a call to build a better state for today & tomorrow.
By electing a pro-middle class majority to both chambers of the Legislature, Minnesotans have rejected the extremism & gridlock that plagued the 2011-2012 session. By rejecting constitutional amendments that would have limited the freedom to marry & the right to vote, Minnesotans showed that we are an inclusive state.
I am proud of the work that the thousands of union volunteers did in educating voters on the issues & the candidates.
It is now time to begin the work of completing Minnesota's economic recovery and help build a state that can be a national leader for decades to come."
