Labor 2018 kicks off on February 15 and 16 with a Campaigns Conference. The Conference is being held at the Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront Hotel, 11 Kellogg Boulevard, St. Paul. It starts at 9 a.m. Thursday, February 15 and will end by 12:30 p.m. on February 16.
For many months, Minnesota AFL-CIO affiliate leaders, including Retiree Council activists, have been meeting as a Labor Table to strategize and develop a plan that incorporates electoral, legislative and organizing campaigns. The Campaigns Conference will feature workshops and panels on workplace issues and organizing, volunteer recruitment and campaign best practices. As the election of a labor endorsed Governor is JOB # 1 for Labor 2018, there will be a gubernatorial candidate forum on Friday morning, February 16.
The Retiree Council hopes at least 50 retiree leaders and activists will participate in the conference. To encourage retiree participation from throughout the state, the Minnesota AFL-CIO is offering half-price registration for three retirees from each Area Labor Council and Regional Labor Federation.
The State Retiree Council will pay the other half of registration for those 18 individuals identified by leadership of their ALC or RLF, so their registration fees ($75) will be completely covered. In addition, the Retiree Council will pay half the registration ($37.50) for another 32 retirees – first come, first served. Hopefully, their retiree affiliates can help with the other half of the registration fee.
