Expect an exciting day on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Sheet Metal Workers #10 Hall, 1681 Cope Avenue in Maplewood. It’s the 21st Annual Convention of the Minnesota AFL-CIO Retiree Council. Big events that day – a celebration of our twentieth anniversary, the launch of our Strategic Plan to guide our work over the next few years, and election of all officers and Board members.
How can this be the 21st convention and our twentieth anniversary? The first convention was a “founding convention” and the first “working” annual convention was the following year.
The 2017 convention will be called to order at 11 a.m. with registration beginning at 10 a.m. Credentials should be returned to the Retiree Council at the MN AFL-CIO Office, 175 Aurora Avenue, St. Paul MN 55103 by September 15, 2017. You can download forms from our website: http://www.mnaflcio.org/state-retiree-council. Each credential should be accompanied by the $25 registration fee payment – check made out to the Minnesota State Retiree Council, AFL-CIO. Adjournment will be by 3 p.m.
There will be a presentation on the Strategic Plan and break-out discussion groups about implementation ideas. All Executive Officers and Board members will be up for election. There are still Executive Officer vacancies, including for President, at the time of this writing. The Nominations Committee will be meeting to screen candidates at 10 a.m. on convention day.
Awards will be presented to individuals and affiliates. The registration fee includes lunch. And there will be a birthday celebration with cake!! Guests are welcome – but with a fee to eat lunch. For additional information, call the Retiree Council at 651-227-7647, ext. 121 or 1-800-652-9004, ext. 121.
Thanks to Lois Wendt and her committee and all convention committees for their work.
