Every day Educational Support Professionals make school happen for Minneapolis students. Yet we can start as low as $20,000 a year and pay some of the highest rates in the district for health insurance!
On June 12, ESP are bargaining with the Minneapolis Public Schools for a new union contract. We’ll be rallying at bargaining to show the school district that the people who care for our children deserve a raise!
We’ll have music and food, and we’ll hear from ESP, teachers, and community supporters.
It is widely acknowledged by teachers and principals that Minneapolis Public Schools couldn’t run without ESP. ESP are the critical backbone for our schools, providing support for students with special needs, meeting with parents, backing up teachers, sometimes even providing a shoulder for students to cry on.
But the importance of these jobs doesn’t show up on ESP paychecks. ESP earn poverty wages. In a recent survey, 74% of ESP said they don’t earn enough money to meet their needs. 70% of ESP work at least one other job. Some ESP are homeless.
Let’s show the school district this is unacceptable and that students, parents, teachers and staff, and community members stand with ESP!
