National Nurses Week Begins May 6
April 29, 2010--Join thousands of Minnesota Nurses and take it to the streets on Thursday, May 6 to conduct informational picketing outside of area hospitals.
More than 12,000 Minnesota nurses are in the midst of labor contract negotiations with six different Twin Cities hospital systems. The nurses will vote on May 19, 2010 to either ratify a new labor agreement or else authorize a strike, which could begin on June 1. If nurses do vote to go on strike, it would be the largest RN-related work stoppage in U.S. history in terms of the number of nurses involved.
Actions you can take:
Stand with nurses at an informational picketing site. Here are the active sites on May 6:
Minneapolis: Thousands of nurses will be picketing and speaking with members of the general public from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. along Chicago Avenue outside of Abbott Northwestern Hospital (80 East 28th Street, Minneapolis) and Children's Hospital (2525 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis).
Coon Rapids: Thousands of nurses will be picketing and speaking with members of the general public from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. along Coon Rapids Boulevard outside of Mercy Hospital (4050 Coon Rapids Boulevard Northwest, Coon Rapids).
Can’t make it to the picket lines that day? No problem. Here’s other ways you can help:
