Construction Trades Rally for Jobs

Construction workers from Minnesota's building trades packed the Capitol yesterday to rally for a robust jobs bill that will put Minnesotans back to work.

 Good-paying jobs help address Minnesota’s revenue problem. This is needed infrastructure no matter the economic climate.

Now, the jobs infrastructure bill awaits Governor Pawlenty's signature. Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson called on Governor Pawlenty to sign the bill in its entirety.

  

“Governor Pawlenty should remember that every project he vetoes means fewer good-paying jobs for Minnesotans,” Knutson said. “Family sustaining jobs not only provide Minnesotans with economic security, they generate much needed revenue to help close the state’s budget gap.”

Signing the jobs infrastructure bill is part of the solution that the Minnesota AFL-CIO is calling upon Put us to work legislators to approach in its 2010 legislative agenda. The Construction Jobs Coalition Bill is another proposed piece of legislation that will move Minnesota towards higher employment.

The halls of the Capitol will continue to hear the echoes of jobs throughout session from union members and working families. The Minnesota AFL-CIO has scheduled Working Families Day on the Hill for Wednesday, April 7 with a rally that begins at noon in the rotunda. Union members and community partners will again be hitting the message home of job creation and retention as well as a balanced approach to raising revenue for the state. Following the rally on April 7, affiliates plan on visiting their legislators to advocate
