In response to news the state budget surplus increased to $3.7 billion, Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham made the following statement:
“Today’s announcement shows prioritizing investments in workers and families while taxing the rich and the biggest corporations is a path to a stable budget and a more prosperous state.
“Minnesota is clearly on the right path, but now is not the time to let up on our progress. We’re only now beginning to recover from years of underinvestment and countless racial and economic disparities continue to persist in communities across Minnesota.
“As our lawmakers continue their work this year, it will be vital for them to both shore up last year's historic investments and pass legislation that continues Minnesota’s journey towards becoming the best state for working people.”
