MN AFL-CIO Statement on Budget Forecast

Feb 28 2011

St. Paul – Responding to the Minnesota Department of Finance’s February 2011 Budget Forecast, Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson issued the following statement:

“While we are encouraged by today’s forecast, there remains a multi-billion dollar revenue crisis. And that means Minnesota’s working families are still hurting.

Governor Pawlenty’s failed policies hurt middle class families the most. It is time for the most fortunate among us to pay their fair share.

That’s why we support Governor Dayton’s plan to balance the budget and a jobs and infrastructure bill to create shovel ready jobs that will put paychecks into workers’ pockets.  A fair budget will save and create jobs today while protecting middle class families from tax increases.”

The Minnesota AFL-CIO is a labor federation made up of more than 1,000 affiliate unions, representing over 300,000 working men and women throughout the state.
