Roundtable to focus on impact of the economy, unemployment on Minneapolis
On Thurs., Dec. 3, Minneapolis workers will participate in a roundtable discussion on the state of the economy in Minnesota and talk about what they hope to hear from President Obama’s jobs summit at the White House. Participants will discuss unemployment and their personal experience with the current economy. Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson will moderate.
“Minnesota’s working people have been slaughtered by a bad economy and bad economic decisions made by the last administration,” said David Wehde, Minnesota Working America Director. “As President Obama gathers with economic leaders in Washington, Minneapolis workers are coming together to talk about their situation, how the economy has hurt them, and what they hope to see happen.”
The roundtable discussion is part of a comprehensive initiative led by the AFL-CIO and affiliates like Working America to push for the immediate creation of good jobs. The initiative is meant to immediately turn around the economy and is expected to create and save at least 2 million jobs over the next year. The plan includes:
- Extending the lifeline for jobless workers;
- Rebuilding America's schools, roads and energy systems;
- Increasing aid to state and local governments to maintain vital services;
- Funding jobs in our communities;
- and putting TARP funds to work for Main Street.
