Information for State Legislative Candidates Seeking Endorsement

We are proud to endorse leaders who share our values and support organizing, collective bargaining and labor’s collective policy priorities.

The Minnesota AFL-CIO is Minnesota’s umbrella labor federation, representing more than 300,000 union members and retirees from more than 1,000 Local unions and 43 International unions, including firefighters, nurses, teachers, building and construction, industrial and agricultural workers, service and public employees. The Minnesota AFL-CIO consists of the State Federation, based in Saint Paul, six regional labor bodies - the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation, North East Area Labor Council, Southeast Area Labor Council, East Central Area Labor Council, and West Area Labor Council; and Minnesota State Retirees Council. We are proud to partner with our community affiliate, Working America, in addition to community, faith and non-profit partners. Our mission is to improve the lives of working people – to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to our state and nation.

All candidates seeking the Minnesota AFL-CIO endorsement are required to complete the candidate questionnaire and to screen with the appropriate Area Labor Council or Regional Labor Federation.

Following screenings, Area Labor Councils/Regional Labor Federations make endorsement recommendations to the Minnesota AFL-CIO Executive & General Board. A 2/3 majority vote is required for endorsement.
